Enhanced topological superconductivity in spatially modulated planar Josephson junctions

We propose a semiconductor-superconductor hybrid device for realizing topological superconductivity and Majorana zero modes consisting of planar Josephson junction structure with periodically modulated width. By performing numerical analysis the effective model describing low-energy physics structure, we demonstrate that modulation width results in substantial enhancement gap and, consequently, robustness superconducting phase associated modes. This is due to formation minibands strongly renormalized parameters, including stronger spin-orbit coupling, generated by periodic potential induced structure. In addition larger gap, proposed supports covers significant fraction parameter space, low Zeeman field regime, absence difference across junction. Furthermore, optimal regime operating can be conveniently accessed tuning region using, example, top gate.
